Bloombird
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 May 2026
Bloombird (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is operated by Daniel R Hardisty, an Australian sole trader (ABN 18 626 094 002). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Bloombird mobile application (“the App”).
We built Bloombird with privacy as a core principle. We collect the minimum information needed to run the service, we keep audio processing on your device wherever possible, and we give you control over your information.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information. When you create an account, we use Sign in with Apple. We receive an identifier from Apple and, if you choose to share it, your name and email address.
- Content you create. Journal entries, saved “wins,” disclosure scripts, and messages you send to Sally (our AI companion) are stored so you can return to them.
- Onboarding responses. Answers you give during onboarding (for example, your goals) help personalise your experience.
Information processed when you use speech features
- Speech practice (Practice tab). When you practise a technique, audio is captured and processed on your device using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. To generate feedback, an anonymised text transcript may be sent to our AI provider. Raw audio recordings are not uploaded to or stored on our servers.
- Sally voice. Where you speak to Sally, your speech is converted to text on your device. To give Sally a spoken voice, the text of Sally’s reply is sent to a text-to-speech provider to generate audio. We do not store this audio on our servers.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and diagnostic data. We may collect limited, aggregated information about how the App is used (for example, which features are opened and crash diagnostics) to improve the App.
- Subscription status. We receive your subscription and trial status from Apple to unlock features. We do not receive or store your payment card details — all payments are handled by Apple.
2. How We Store Your Information
- On your device. Much of your activity is stored locally on your device.
- Apple iCloud (CloudKit). To let your information sync across your devices and survive a reinstall, certain records — including your account profile and your Sally chat history (stored as conversation and message records) — are stored in Apple’s iCloud using CloudKit. This data is held within Apple’s infrastructure associated with your Apple account.
- Community “wins.” For this version of the App, the community wins feed is stored only on your device and is not synced to our servers.
3. Third-Party Service Providers
We use a small number of trusted providers to deliver the App. Information shared with them is limited to what is needed to perform their function:
- Apple. Sign in with Apple, iCloud/CloudKit storage, and App Store subscription processing.
- Anthropic (Claude API). Processes text — such as anonymised practice transcripts and your messages to Sally — to generate responses and feedback.
- OpenAI. Converts the text of Sally’s replies into spoken audio (text-to-speech).
These providers process information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own unrelated purposes. We encourage you to review their respective privacy practices.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and personalise the App’s features.
- To generate AI feedback and Sally’s responses.
- To sync your information across your devices and restore it after reinstall.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the App.
- To respond to your enquiries and support requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your journal entries or Sally conversations to advertise to you.
5. Your GDPR Rights (EU, EEA, and UK users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the European Union (EU), or the United Kingdom (UK), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR give you specific rights over your personal data. This section explains those rights and how we comply.
Data controller
The data controller responsible for your personal data is Daniel R Hardisty (ABN 18 626 094 002), Victoria, Australia. You can contact us about any privacy matter at hello@bloombird.app.
Legal bases for processing
We only process your personal data where we have a valid legal basis to do so. Depending on the situation, our legal bases are:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the App and its features to you.
- Consent — where you have given us consent (for example, optional features); you may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — to secure, maintain, and improve the App, where these interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to process data to comply with the law.
Your rights under the GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — ask us to delete your personal data. You can do this directly by deleting your account in the App.
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. The App provides a data export option in Settings, and you can also email us at hello@bloombird.app to request a complete copy of your data.
- Object — object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — withdraw any consent you have given, at any time, without affecting prior lawful processing.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@bloombird.app. We will respond within one month, as required by the GDPR. We will not charge a fee unless your request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.
International transfers
Your personal data may be processed outside the EEA/UK, including in the United States, by our service providers (Apple, Anthropic, and OpenAI). Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under the GDPR, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, to protect your data.
Right to lodge a complaint
If you believe we have not handled your personal data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. We would, however, appreciate the chance to address your concerns first — please contact us at hello@bloombird.app.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent.
- Delete your account. You can delete your account from within the App (Settings). Deleting your account erases or anonymises your associated records, including your CloudKit-stored profile and Sally chat history.
- Export your data. The App provides a data export option in Settings. For a complete copy of your data, you can also email us at hello@bloombird.app.
- Make a request. You can also contact us at hello@bloombird.app to exercise your rights. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
California residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We have never sold personal information and have no plans to do so. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
7. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. When you delete your account, we erase or anonymise your associated personal information, except where we are required to retain it to comply with legal obligations.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children’s Privacy
Bloombird is designed for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@bloombird.app and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy within the App and updating the “Last updated” date above.
